National Children’s Dental Health Month

National Children’s Dental Health Month
February 18, 2016ArticlesKids

Every February, we celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month to promote the benefits of good dental health in children. Started by the American Dental Association, this year’s focus is to “Defeat Monster Mouth.” Through the use of posters and activity sheets featuring the McGrinn Twins, Flossy and Buck, along with Den and Gen Smiley and K-9 their dog, the goal is to expose more children to the importance of brushing, flossing and eating healthy snacks to defeat “monster mouth.”

In this year’s campaign, the Smileys, McGrinns and K9 are in the USS SweetSwatter, a spaceship circling the globe, fighting against the Sweet Tooth Invaders. It’s a fun—and positive—way to help a range of ages to understand the importance of brushing, flossing and avoiding sugary drinks and foods.

To access free online resources to help teach your children about good oral health, check out this website: http://www.ada.org/en/public-programs/national-childrens-dental-health-month/ If you scroll down, you’ll find a list of Fun Activity Sheets for Kids about dental care, such as a Sugar Wars Calendar, a Sugar Wars Certificate, a maze, word search and a Hidden Sweets activity sheet, among others.

As you know, our Manhattan pediatric dental practice is all about kids and their oral health. Through regular dental visits every six months and daily brushing and flossing, your child can develop the important habits that will ensure a lifetime of dental health. Start your child’s professional dental care at our South Manhattan pediatric dental practice as soon as that first tooth appears, and you’ll be well on your way to giving your child a beautiful and healthy smile for life!
